UCAR Community Programs (UCP) - Unidata

BASIC JOB FUNCTION: Collaborates with other Unidata developers to test, support, maintain and develop Unidata software products and real-time data streams. Works closely with end-users and other Unidata developers to specify community needs for software and data. The main focus of this position will be in the THREDDS group working on the netCDF-Java and the THREDDS Data Server (TDS) software.
! ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Unidata supports the earth science research and education community with data and software tools. Unidata software products are used widely in the climate and other earth sciences. Unidata's team environment provides for high levels of autonomy and responsibility with great opportunity to excel individually and contribute to the team's success.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
User Support.
Provides technical support to technical and non-technical staff. Investigates and provides timely responses to user support questions. Works with users to troubleshoot problems with Unidata software and real-time data streams. Diagnoses problems, proposes solutions and works with other Unidata developers to develop and test proposed solutions. In collaboration with other developers, develops training materials and teaches annual and regional workshops.
Software Design and Development.
Works with end-users and other Unidata developers to specify community needs. Collaborates with other developers to test, maintain and develop Unidata software products, especially netCDF-Java and the TDS.
Data Access and Distribution.
Works with other developers to monitor and maintain THREDDS Data Server (TDS) on Unidata production systems. Works with other developers to maintain Internet Data Distribution (IDD)/Local Data Manager (LDM) configuration, especially as pertaining to TDS services.
Miscellaneous.
Participates in technical advisory committees. Prepares progress reports and presentations for Unidata management. Fosters interactions with user community and other Unidata staff in an effort to anticipate and estimate current and future data and software needs. Writes papers and prepares and gives presentations at scientific meetings.
