Job opening - A letter to the hard-working-but-currently-uninspired engineer at Amazon in Orange County (Irvine, CA)

I work at A2Z OC, an Amazon.com company, which is a very cool R&D group in Orange County, CA, and I’ve been asked to find a needle in a haystack. A2Z OC was founded in 2010, by a seasoned Internet exec who is native to OC and believes the area has great technical talent. At A2Z we believe in creativity, hard work, and integrity. We want to hire someone who is exceptional, so I’ve tried to create an exceptional job posting. We’re looking for a person who is able to make a profound impact on our company culture on a daily basis. The position is entitled, "Senior Software Development Engineer"; but, I’m hoping to quickly nickname you “Architect Wizard.” On your year anniversary maybe we will buy you a plaque that says, “Master of the Code.” I look forward to the day when your manager will say, “I wondered if asking you to handle the whole code base would be too overwhelming -- but, y! ou really pulled it off!” I relish the thought of your manager going over a code review with you before a big launch and concluding, “Wow, no bugs!”I know you’re out there. You want to be a part of something great. You want to feel engaged and motivated, appreciated and successful. You love to build, you love to create, and you love to stay busy. It doesn’t matter what school you attended and it doesn’t matter if you’ve ever coded in Java. It matters if you are highly intelligent, technically savvy, meticulous, and cheerful. I dream of the day when our site director asks you to stand up at our quarterly all hands so he can say, “You deserve a round of applause from all of us. The launch we did last week was the best deployment we have had in A2Z history. Because of you, everything ran smoothly and professionally. You have made our customers very happy.” I know you’re currentl! y employed and working hard, but feeling dissatisfied. I bet y! ou’re considering how you can continue to learn and develop staying in your current role. But, I suggest that it’s not about staying and working on a different project -- it’s about being a part of something entirely new, exciting, something you can believe in and contribute to. We need a person who approaches his or her job with energy and pride. And, I bet you need to be a part of a company that values its employees and holds them to high standards. Let’s connect. Send a message, apply, friend us, follow us, add us. Imagine what it might be like to work here and take a leap.
