Job opening - System Administrator for Web Development Shop at We Are Mammoth (Chicago, IL)

We're looking for a system administrator with 2-4 years experience to manage our internal technology infrastructure in Chicago. We're a quickfire web development shop running Mac and Windows workstations, a suite of DLP and IDS systems, and are beginning a slew of 2012 technology initiatives from planning and building out a new office to deploying networking and security technology for our remote workforce.


Please note: this is a contract-to-hire position. We're offering a full-time 6 month contract followed by a performance review and opportunity for a permanent position. 


Here's a sampling of what you'll be up to: 



  • Manage research, purchase, acquisition, installation of workstations, network & security gear, fileservers, hardware.

  • Help manage all 3rd party services in/out of house: telephony, hosting, back up services

  • Manage communication with hardware and ! software vendors: security, software, hardware, etc.

  • Maintain 15-25 Macbook Pro/Air workstations running both Apple & Microsoft OS

  • Monitor security and usage policies

  • Day to day maintenance of network, file servers, VPN uptime, and workstations

  • Monitor security and AV reports

  • Ensure business critical files are being backed up

  • Perform weekly security and IT reviews

  • Maintain an inventory of all hardware, software, and usage thereof in house

  • Maintain in-house development server instances (VMWare running on Dell blade)

  • Draft and test, annually, a business technology continuity plan 


And here's a sampling of the immediate initiatives we're undertaking: 



  • Research and install new network switch

  • Research and install new firewall and VPN system

  • Upgrade DL! P and IDP device 

  • Upgrade, from scratch, &n! bsp;Windows Active Directory to allow better networking across Apple/Windows devices.

  • Manage workstation policies: windows/mac, full-disk encryption, sign on/off policies, offsite usage policies. 

  • Move offices (manage networking install at new location, break down current location, reinstall network, manage vendors, guaranteed uptime)

  • Migrate network from Comcast & Megapath failover to Cogent & Comcast failover.

  • Move telephony from hosted, external service to in-house PBX (Asterisk).

  • Maximize network throughput. We've got a lot of traffic going in and out of our network, and we'll be installing some fiber optics to help. Your job is to make sure there's no bottlenecks from end point to end point.
