
OPERATIONS ENGINEER
Sugar Inc. is looking for a energetic operations engineer to help us scale our production platform. Sugar develops high-performance web properties with an audience of over 20 million monthly visitors. Responsibilities:
Serve within on-call pager rotation for all production platform problems
Install, administer, monitor and triage all Linux servers and applications
Maintain wiki-based system documentation
Work with development and editorial teams to provide infrastructure support for new initiatives
Provide architectural input and capacity planning strategies to ensure system scalability and functionality!
Perform system enhancements and upgrades, make scalability improvements and contribute to special projects
Help develop new dashboards, alerts, and monitors to improve the visibility into the service/system and thereby increase the overall availability and reliability of the service
Qualifications:
At least 3 years of Linux systems administration experience. If you have more than that, all the better
Understanding of OSI network model and network protocols
Experience with subversion or other version control system
MySQL administration experience
Understanding of caching strategies from local, to distributed to CDN
Fluency in at least one scripting language and familiarity with others
Experience with enhancing monitoring and alerting systems (we use Nagios and Ganglia)
Experience with both LAMP and Java app stacks
Experience developing and worki! ng with scalable systems
Appreciation for automation! and understanding of automation technologies and techniques
This position is full time in downtown San Francisco.
