The qualities that we’re looking for are:

 

1.   Great developer - the technical aspects that we’re looking for is given in the next section.  But more so than any technical aspects, we are looking for someone who can THINK and think very well!

2.   Willing to take risks – this is essentially the quality that we believe is the hardest to find.  We want/need someone who understands and is comfortable with what being in a start-up involves:

a.       Making the start-up a priority in their life over other things – this involves joining us full-time.

b.      Comfortable with risks – at an early stage the start-up is an uncertain endeavour.  We might not be able to pay too much initially, but there will also be an equity stake which can lead to returns commensurate with the risk taken.

c.       Entrepreneurial spirit -  we want someone who understands that start-ups are less-process oriented than bigger orgs.  The person will be an integral part of the company (marketing, hiring, strategy) and will shape the course of the company that we build together.

Software Description

 

LegaLink is a .NET software project designed to automatically parse and organize the terms defined within a legal document. The software is written in C# and consists of a core library that is platform- independent as well as an add-in for Microsoft Word 2007 & 2010 developed using VSTO.

 

Desired Skills and Characteristics

-          Experience in a managed object-oriented language such as C# or Java.

-          A solid grounding in some basic aspects of theoretical computer science—e.g., data structures, search algorithms.

-          Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

-          Willingness to learn and adapt a variety of development approaches in order to figure out what works best for this project.

-          Some experience with agile development and associated techniques—e.g., TDD, CI, BDD, iterative/incremental design, etc.

 

COMPANY PROFILE

 

Medaan Tech. Pvt. Ltd. is a seed-stage start-up with only 4 people involved currently.  However, we believe that if a company has the right talent, it doesn’t need that many people to change the way things work in a big way.

 

Our mission is to introduce innovative, intuitive and helpful products to industries and change the status quo.  To this end, our flagship product LegaLink aims at changing the way legal documents are reviewed and drafted.

 

The idea (which has found strong support and enthusiasm from our target audience – law firms, bankers, legal departments) is about to be launched as a part of a private-beta release. Once this happens, we expect product iteration cycles to shorten (based on feedback) and need the help of an extremely talented and committed full-time partner to take the product to the next level (and continue to do so in the future).  

 

Start-ups (especially seed-stage) inherently tend to attract people who have a certain risk-tolerance and are looking to truly contribute, create and be challenged.  If you believe that you share these attributes, the extreme upside potential (emotionally, mentally and, of course, monetarily) of being part of Medaan should make you want join us!

Monetarily, the market size that we’re looking at is HUGE– essentially any industry that deals with legal documents in English speaking countries (US, UK, parts of Europe, Hong Kong, India etc.).  As of now we do not have much competition (read any), but we expect that to change – however, our business plan/ strategy is geared towards making sure that we continue to grow and retain first mover advantage.  In the future, we may also decide to enter industry verticals (we have been told our product may be useful in a variety of different industries – academia, documentation, IP consulting).
