We're looking for a self-directed, self-motivated individual who can wear many hats, both in individual contribution and in coordination, to join the tech team of an education sector start-up affiliated with the University of Chicago.   At UChicago Impact, we build and scale solutions to the challenges faced by school districts across the country. Our new team member would join a successful growing organization (15 staffers) already improving schools in 19 states and 33 cities.

As a senior Python web engineer you will be developing our educational services platform for our organization, creating web services, business logic, data model, architecture, caching and performance strategy; whatever it takes to create, expand, enhance, and support our educational platform.

 

Requirements:

·        Strong architectural chops: 5+ years building secure, scalable, stable and manageable web applications in python using Django framework.

·        3+ years developing against Mysql with serious chops in query and data model optimization and some DB tuning experience a plus.

·        3+ years developing on Linux utilizing a standard web services framework (apache).

·        Strong experience in Object Oriented design patterns.

·         Some startup experience

·        Potential Candidates should have strong working experience with all tiers of application development.

·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills highly preferred.

 

Technical requirements:

·        3+ years in Python programming

·        Some experience in using DJango framework preferred.

·        3+ years using MySql

·        Experience using Shell command

 

Differentiators:

·        Experience in javascript / ajax and/or mobile development

·        Experience in deep AWS integration

·        Contribution to an open source project

·        Knowledge of the strength and limitations of Agile development
