Job opening - Ruby Software Development Engineer, AWS Developer Resources at Amazon (Seattle, WA)

The AWS Developer Resources team is seeking Ruby experts interested in building support for Ruby applications. This is a great opportunity to influence Ruby developers through the AWS SDK for Ruby and the development of tools for Ruby.

The ideal candidate is passionate about Ruby API design and will thrive in a startup-like environment where you do things properly and thoroughly the first time and improve your systems with each subsequent release.

In this role, you will be the voice of AWS in the Ruby community. You will design and implement APIs and features for the AWS SDK for Ruby (http://aws.amazon.com/sdkforruby). You will build sample web applications that demonstrate best practices for using Amazon Web Services. You will have strong web development skills and be interested in releasing open source software.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or 4+ year relevant work experience.
  • 4+ years professional experience in software development.
  • Experience in writing high-performance and reliable Ruby code

  • Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design.
  • Computer Science fundamentals in data structures.
  • Computer Science fundamentals in algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.
  • Strong passion for developing APIs that provide a great customer experience.
  • Understanding of web services technologies such as SOAP, HTTP, WSDL, XSD, and REST.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and agile development environment.
  • A self-starter who is motivated to take ownership of projects and drive tasks to completion.
  • Experience with other languages, such as Java, C#, or PHP.
  • Experience ! building complex software systems that have been successfully ! delivered to customers.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project.
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.
