Quartz (http://qz.com), a newly launched global business news site from Atlantic Media, is seeking an experienced Ad Product Engineer.
This is a rare opportunity to help conceive and execute a totally custom ad product from the ground up. Our mission is to build technologically innovative, UX savvy, interactive features that are integrated seamlessly into the site experience.
You will redefine the traditional approach to advertising and news delivery, leveraging emerging standards and browser technologies that HTML5 and responsive design allow for. You’ll get to explore each facet of this developing technology in order to build highly optimized features that work on a variety of devices.
You will be working side by side with a designer, developers, editors, AdOps and marketing folk a! like.
The position is based out of our new Soho office in NYC.
Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a talented and creative mobile web app developer with expertise in responsive development. You should have strong technical knowledge in current web development and mobile technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). Words like Backbone, Modernizer, Bootstrap, and Github should resonate with you. When people talk about CSS3 you know which features are currently hardware accelerated and not. In terms of Mobile Safari you should know why “position: fixed†might have been a big deal for some before iOS5. You should love creating things and take great personal pride in building beautiful and functional user interfaces.
We also expect a solid background in the! fundamentals of software development and have a deep understa! nding of best practices in mobile and website development, including cross-browser compatibility, performance tuning of UI/JavaScript applications, and user experience. You don¹t need to worry about older version of IE in this role - hurrah!
- Development and implementation experience of interactive web/mobile apps
- Expertise with JS based frameworks such as jQuery and knowledge of Underscore, Modernizer, etc.
- Experience with Google DFP or working with other large scale ad networks
- Working with layouts (PSD/wireframes) as a basis for responsive and interactive creative
- Prototyping and evaluating front-end designs
- HTML5 (CSS3, transitions, application cache, video, geo etc), DOM, HTML fragments
- Experience with cross-browser and platform issues
- Managing version control systems (Github FTW) code releases (merging, tagging, etc)
- Familiarity with WordPress, client-! side templating, JSON, and 3rd party APIs a plus
- Good communication and documentation skills
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, strong organizational skills, with a methodical approach to all tasks
- Technical problem-solving skills, ability to succeed in a fast-moving high-demand environment, and a willingness to "roll up your sleeves" when necessary
- Willingness to learn new skills, frameworks, and programming languages as necessary

- You've already built pages or applications utilizing HTML5
- Links to your work on GitHub or other public repos
- StackOverflow profile (if relevant)
- Links to websites or services where you've had a primary development role
