HotelTonight is looking for a talented Senior Ruby/Rails Developer who:

  • Has full-stack experience building and scaling out non-trivial web / mobile apps
  • Wants to be an integral part of architectural decisions, leading code reviews, improving our software development processes and mentoring other team members
  • Wants to solve big problems: scaling mobile transactions, improving personalized recommendation engines, globalizing an e-commerce platform, etc.
  • Is looking to join a start-up with a proven business model and monetization strategy (one that’s well on its way to becoming a household name)

About us:

  • HotelTonight offers iPhone, iPad and Android users up to 70% off same-day bookings at top-rated hotels we personally vet

  • 3.5 million+ downloads and stellar reviews in both the App Store and Google Play
  • In 1.5 year, grew from 3 cities to 90+ cities in the US and abroad

About our engineering culture:

At HotelTonight, our engineers take enormous pride in building the world’s first mobile-only, personalized online travel agency.  Everything we do is centered around making HotelTonight as simple and enjoyable as possible for both hotels and for customers. We are looking for team members who aren't just looking to keep up with what other companies or apps are doing but want to set a new standard. We strongly value craftsmanship, have so! me perfectionist tendencies and do our best to keep up with th! e constantly changing mobile and web landscape to put out the best possible product. We have a deep appreciation for the time and energy others give to open source projects and to the communities we keep up with, and fully embrace giving back to them.

What you'll do:

  • Help us as we relentlessly build and evolve Rails applications that power our consumer-facing mobile apps, as well as tools and interfaces for hotels and the HT team.  As these tools are not visible to the public, it's the most proprietary part of HotelTonight, and the innovations in it are a huge part of our competitive advantage.
  • Solve big problems, including scaling mobile transactions, improving our display algorithms and globalization of the platform.
  • Help identify new technologies and techniques that can improve our apps, lead code reviews, continually help to impro! ve our development processes and mentor other team members.

What we're looking for in you:

  • Expert in Ruby, Rails 3, API design, and related technologies
  • Excited by and familiar with the tools and methodologies we use for building great software, including Git, pragmatic BDD/TDD testing, and other aspects of our tech stack like Haml, SCSS, and JavaScript and/or CoffeeScript.
  • Appreciation for Agile development, continuous integration, and beautiful / efficient code
  • Smart yet humble.  Take pride in what you build, question the status quo so we can improve, defend your ideas and respect others’ opinions. Everyone here is focused on finding the best solutions to the problems we face.
  • Independent and product-focused. We expect our developers to also define big portions of the products they build. If you want to be handed a c! omplete product spec on your first day, you'd probably be happier worki! ng elsewhere.

What you'll get from us:

  • True startup experience â€" no rules, no bureaucracy, tons of tough decisions with real impacts on the business.
  • A real say in the future of the company â€" you'll be a valued member of the team whose ideas about how to grow a world class company will be vital to our success.
  • Chance to become an expert in mobile travel while it’s a nascent, growing industry.
  • Camaraderie of an amazing team that is working incessantly to build the next great travel company.
  • Great SF office location at 2nd and Mission. (If you don’t live in SF, we’ll move you here.)
  • Excellent health, dental, vision and 401K plans.  Generous compensation and stock options too!
  • Sweet perks: Annual travel stipend, your choice of equipment and a giant monitor, catered lunches and breakfast several tim! es a week, unlimited coffee and snacks, kegerator and a gong that you’ll get to bang when you do something amazing.
