The New York Times is seeking a web designer/developer to join its newsroom development team.
Think of this team as a startup within a large media company. As a designer and front-end developer you will have an extraordinary amount of creative freedom to explore new ways of presenting news and information online. That means non-linear storytelling utilizing social networks, maps, visualizations, searchable databases, mobile devices and other means of presenting the news and the stories behind the news.
Responsibilities:
- The job requires solid design skills and the ability to execute.
- Experience with Ruby, Python or MySQL is a plus.
- Also critical is an attention to detail, a pride in the quality of one's work and the ability to meet news deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Expert-level understanding of standards-driv! en CSS, HTML and JavaScript.
- Extensive cross-browser and cross-device development experience.
- Familiarity with mobile development, including responsive design and touch capabilities.
- Deep understanding of the principles of web accessibility and user-centered design/development.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
