Job opening - Basis Science, Inc: Senior Software Engineer

Basis is a San Francisco-based startup focused on making the world a healthier place. Our product, the Basis Band, is a sleek, wearable device that connects to a web and mobile service and delivers personalized, science-based feedback. Our office is located in the tech-friendly SOMA district of San Francisco, close to BART/MUNI, parking, and Caltrain.

To create this technology ecosystem, Basis has built an awesome team of multi-disciplinary engineers, designers and experts from industries as diverse as gaming and biomedical engineering. We are looking for a senior back end engineer with a passion for building scalable systems to join us in applying technology to advance health. On the back end, we primarily code in Python and use MongoDB, Redis, ZeroMQ, and other relevant technololgies.

Responsibilities:

  • Extend our RESTful API and with high performance, well tested code.
  • Build and maintain new web services to help users achieve their fitness and wellness goals.
  • Improve the scalability and reliability of our services.
  • Work collaboratively with our talented front end developers to quickly complete projects in an agile environment.
  • Help shape product direction, lead and own outcomes, and contribute to a fun culture.

  • About You

    Requirements:

    • 5+ years professional software engineering experience; 2+ years in Python.
    • Expert knowledge in developing RESTful web APIs
    • Experience with deploying and scaling web services on AWS, Rackspace, or other cloud hosting provider.
    • Ability to work in an agile environment ! with a shared code base.
    • Passion for delivering code t! hat works right the first time.
    • Interested in health and fitness tracking.

    Ideally:

    • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math, or equivalent experience
    • Experience with NoSQL database development with MongoDB or similar.
    • Experience with ZeroMQ or other distributed message queues.
    • Experience with distributed computing.
    • Active involvement in open source projects.
