We're looking for a highly intelligent, creative person with experience in the latest web technology. The ideal candidate would be an experienced programmer with a passion for taming web browsers and ability to deliver software projects on schedule.
A strong background in Javascript / HTML5 developemnt is a must. We want someone who is a great developer and an avid reader (or writer!) of development and software blogs, and is always on the lookup for new techniques and tools. Experience with server-side development languages would be helpful but is not a requirement.
You won't need to know how to build simulations. We use a model-view-controller approach to development and the modelers and web application developers are almost always different people with different skills. You'll get the information you need to display from the model using the REST API from the web simulation package we provide called Forio Simulate.
This position is a ! great opportunity for someone who wants to make a real contribution in a growing company
Who Are We?
Forio is a fifteen person company that provides online software for creating web-based simulations on topics like innovation, finance, global warming, urban planning, and healthy populations. Our biggest customers are universities, government agencies, and consulting companies. This past year we've done a lot of work with Harvard Business School producing several business games, MIT creating some environmental simulations, IBM, the CDC making a simulation around the health of US citizens, and the city of Portland, Oregon building a simulation around what Portland might be like in 25 years.
All of our simulations are available online and many are licensed under creative commons. You can see more at forio.com. Sometimes the simulations are competitive games where people log in and make decisions collaboratively or competitively and sometim! es people just share their results with each other or discuss ! simulation outcomes through an online web chat. Adding real-time chat and collaboration/competition to the simulations requires various data pushing and long-polling techniques to make sure everyone is looking at the same results.
What Do We Have to Offer?
We're a great opportunity for someone who's passionate about web development, interested in simulations and games, and likes working in a small tart-up team in San Francisco. Right away, you'll have an chance to make a real contribution developing simulation game user interfaces for thousands of users, working directly with customers, and helping to shape the development of our software platform.
