Travel & Startups in Boulder, CO
Do you love to travel? Love to write code as well? Come join an exciting TechStars backed startup fusing travel, hospitality & technology in Boulder.

About us:
We love vacation home rentals. Relaxing with friends and family in a big place with a great kitchen and a pool is so much better than staying in a cramped, crowded hotel. VRP is taking the vacation rental experience to the next level by solving the problems surrounding trust, discovery, and booking of vacation homes. We’re building the next great hospitality brand in the travel industry â€" think “Starwood Hotels” of vacation rentals.

A glimpse at the job (engineer):
We’re looking for developers that get a rush from pushing the envelope in usability and interactivity, who feel great when writing clean, well-tested cod! e, and just “get it” when it comes to building for tomorrow’s web. We’re focused on highly user centric, modern web products for Vacation Rentals â€" the fastest growing segment of the travel industry. Think Rails 3.2, Postgres 9.1, Heroku. You’ll be working on production code and shipping features daily. You will be joining a small engineering team, playing a key role in both shaping and building our technologies. Your scope will be broad: ranging from user-facing features to server-side components and libraries. We are looking for a generalist who enjoys rapidly learning and working with different technologies.

About you:
  • We only hire people that make us better
  • You need to be able to learn rapidly and eagerly
  • You say what you think even if it is controversial
  • Courage to question actions that are inconsistent with our values
  • Quick to admit mistakes and even faste! r at learning from them
  • Challenge, mentor and learn fr! om your peers (Pair-program when it makes sense)
  • Provide complexity- and time-based estimates for projects
  • The ability to have fun at work is a must
  • Has experience working with and ideally managing technical teams
  • Really we just want someone who has and insatiable hunger to create amazing products

Technical needs:
  • Our stack includes Ruby, Rails 3, Heroku, Postgres SQL
  • 3+ years of back-end web development experience, including database experience
  • 1+ years experience with the Ruby language and the Rails framework, with a solid understanding of the Ruby on Rails stack
  • Algorithm engineering / math to data problem solving
  • Postgres SQL database design / modeling
  • Experience with Heroku infrastructure and manifolds
  • Familiarity with agile development (and a desire to help us improve however you think we can)
  • Git master
  • !
  • API integration with external systems
  • Wrangle some front-end code (HTML 5, CSS 3, jQuery)
  • Experience with jQuery, Backbone, or similar JS frameworks a plus
  • Experience in test driven development and agile development processes
  • Portfolio of work (open source, commercial, personal) you can demonstrate

Fun stuff:
  • After 3 months you will have the opportunity to work from home once a week if you so desire
  • Discounted stays at any of our properties
  • We are currently small but growing quickly so the sky is the limit with VRP.

How to apply:
  1. Tell us about yourself.. And not a lame cover letter. No one likes doing those things and generally they are complete BS anyway. Literally just tell us about what your into and why you might be a good fit.
  2. Take a look at our si! te and explain one new feature that would be badass for us to add.
  3. !
  4. And obviously send us your resume. Either attach it as a PDF or just paste it into an email.
  5. And send it all to tom@vacationrentalpartner.com
