Job opening - CloudFront and Route 53 Data Ninja at Amazon (Seattle, WA)

CloudFront and Route 53 Data Ninja Amazon Web Services provides a low-latency, high data transfer content delivery network (CDN) via CloudFront and an authoritativeDomain Name System (DNS) via Route 53.

We are looking for a “data ninja” to help us build the best edge services on the planet. You will have the opportunity to explore and analyze vast amounts of data sourced from our 26 edge locations serving more than 20,000 customers and 100s millions of content viewers. At Amazon you will see immediate results from your work as massive production systems respond to insights you discover and software you build.
You might do something like this:
  • Improve overall system performance by learning better caching strategies for our CloudFront service: determine which petabytes of data stay in the cache and which petabytes move out.
  • Improve routing performance between our datacenter and end users by identifying which components of the system cont! ribute to poor user experiences.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of how packets move across the Internet and how routing paths change over time.
  • Implement real-time systems that identify and respond to traffic patterns characteristic of denial of service attacks or content becoming extremely popular.
  • Optimize the locations of new data center locations by simulating the effects of network topology on fault-tolerance and performance.
  • Discover things we did not even know about!
You will perform in-depth data analyses and build dataanalysis systems. As the team’s data ninja, you will improve our data pipelines and mine new sources of data to make our system better. You will build tools so that your key analyses can be packaged up and run by anyone. You will buildsolutions with a team of smart and highly-motivated developers to produce insights that will directly impact our business strategy. And because we continue to grow our online ! presence and edge locations throughout the world, the data you! analyze will continue to get bigger and richer. This is a great opportunity to analyze shifts in Internet topology and latency of networks around the world.

Master’s degree or Ph.D. in computer science or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of software development experience.
  • Strong programming skills, preferably in Java or C++.
  • Experience with data mining, statistical analysis, and machine learning.

  • Experience with Hadoop, Hbase, Hive, Pig, and other big data technologies.
  • Experience using machine learning and statistical tools such as R, SPSS, Weka, and RapidMiner.
  • Experience using machine learning algorithms such as classification, statistical inference and numerical methods
  • Designed and built high-volume ETL or data analysis systems.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, enterprise systems, and asynchronous architectures.
  • Experience with large distributed services is a! plus as is building/operating highly available systems.
  • Works well in a team environment and be able to effectively drive cross-team solutions that have complex dependencies and requirements.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Results-oriented self-starter with the ability to perform analyses and build analysis tools
  • Excellent leadership, and collaboration skills.
