Job opening - Major League Baseball Advanced Media: Senior JavaScript Developer (User Interface Engineer)

MLB Advanced Media is MLB.com (The Official Site of Major League Baseball), the 30 MLB club websites, and many other highly visible and well trafficked partner properties. Since Opening Day 2001, we've been one of the largest and arguably most successful NYC-based tech/media start ups. Our development cycle is extremely fast and it is common to have your code in production only a few days after being written.

As a UIE, you will help us push the boundaries of what is possible on the client. You'll work on a team of front-end developers alongside systems and services engineers, product developers, visual designers, and project managers. You are highly proficient in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and appreciate the details that make a user experience exceptional and demonstrate enthusiasm for new front-end technologies.

You should also have:

  • A portfolio of products you have coded on your own.
  • An appreciation for high-quality execution and attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for working collaboratively with talented people.
  • Ambition and the desire to improve yourself as an engineer.
  • Personal interests beyond baseball and software.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement web interfaces using XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Rapidly prototype and implement scalable, reliable, and maintainable web applications using HTML5 technologies.
  • Enforce code quality through test driven development.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and marketing teams to define product requirements.
  • Distill product requirements into design and technical specifications.
 
Requirements:

  • 3+ years experience building compelling web applications.
  • Strong interest in product and user interface design.
  • Significant experience developing web applications using HTML5.
  • Practical experience programming JSP/JSTL is a major plus.
  • Prior usage of JQuery, XSLT, Struts and/or tag libraries is a plus.
  • Computer science/engineering degree --or-- equivalent experience is preferred.
