LibriVox.org is a free, publlic domain audiobook community, and the largest library of free audiobooks in the world. We've run entirely on volunteer power to date, including all of our software development. However, we are at a point where we need to spend some real time rebuilding things. Our stack is a bunch of stitched together open source software (WordPress and PHPbb and a few other bits and bobs), as well as a bunch of custom software for audio production project management and cataloging. This software stack needs to be reexamined and rebuilt.
We're looking for the right developer.
The PHP & Ruby developer will be responsible for:
* Working with the technical project manager to define the scope of work
* Doing a full code review of existing LibriVox software
* Defining software engineering decisions and specifications for refactoring the work planned
* Refactoring existing LibriVox code
* Implementing a number! of fixes and new features
We'll be open sourcing the code for the project as well.
This is a short-term contract (~6months) with starving non-profit wages ($40-50/hr), and will be a distributed project (though we can probably find space for you at the Internet Archive in San Francisco if you would like a desk somewhere).
