Adage.com is the online brand extension of Advertising Age, the leading newspaper for advertisers and marketers, and consists of a vast array of online products â" including a daily news e-mail; multiple topical e-newsletters; whitepapers; webcasts; podcasts; blogs; streaming video; guides; e-commerce sites; FTP sites; an active user community; market data and more.
The Web Developer is responsible for designing, developing and implementing the online initiatives for adage.com as defined by the business and editorial teams. The Web Developer, as part of the online group, is a cross-functional role which requires the ideal candidate to be highly adept at multi-tasking, re-prioritizing projects and successfully interfacing with non-technical team members from other departments (editorial, sales, marketing, circulation, etc.).
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot and enhance all aspects of adage.com including its (custom) content management system, social networking platform, e-mail distribution provider, ad server, video hosting provider, web analytics package, market data supplier, etc.
- Consult with internal business teams to define technical requirements and capabilities, establish user-workflows and provide project schedules to ensure successful and timely delivery of new online products.
- Implement online initiatives by employing all phases of the software development lifecycle (design, build, test and maintain).
- Integrate, manage and support relationships with 3rd party application providers (Brightcove, Pluck, etc.).
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, relevant APIs, industry best practices and Web usability standards.
Job Requirements
- At least two years experience in PHP, including object-oriented development, speed & performance optimization.
- Proficiency in MySQL and database fundamentals (normalization, joins, schemas, etc.). SQL optimization.
- Proficiency in JavaScript AJAX, JSON, JQuery, and other frameworks strongly preferred.
- Experience with Apache, command line statements, managing crontabs, etc. is a huge plus.
- Previous experience with template-based website design.
- Previous experience creating custom content management systems.
- Previous experience getting/sending data to/from 3rd party APIs using XML, JSON.
- Previous experience with PERL a plus.
- Capable of learning quickly and possesses strong desire to keep up with the latest web technologies.
- Detail orientation; inventiveness; ingenuity; communicability; responsiveness.
- Strong email skills and telecommunicability.
